Royals welcome Russian investor
Reading owner John Madejski received roars of approval yesterday when he took to the pitch to announce new investment in the club. He has sold his 51 per cent stake in the club to Thames Sports Investments owned by Russian timber tycoon Anton Zingarevich.
Zingarevich will formally take control in March but released a statement promising to splash the cash whilst adhering to principles of prudent fiscal management.
The new owner was privately educated in the Reading area and went to Reading University.
All going quite well so far
The Zingarevich group seems to support the existing club staff very well, and have made prudent contributions to the club, allowing some very attractive additions (Roberts, Cywka and Connolly [on loan from QPR]). The club has responded by playing very sound football, advancing to 3rd in the table with an excellent run in 2012. Perhaps TSI can offer a New Model for football clubs, building on Madejski's stable (if somewhat staid) approach without mad spending. We shall see how things proceed.
