"If you want some accessible but informative insight into football then I suggest you couldn't do better than the Political Economy of Football website, which is not only intelligible but comes with the added bonus of being written by Addicks fan Wyn Grant."

A.S. Roma was founded in 1927 by Italo Foschi, with the merger of three older Italian Football Championship clubs from the city of Rome; Roman FC, SS Alba-Audace and Fortitudo-Pro Roma SGS. The purpose of the merger was to give Rome a strong club to rival that of dominant Northern Italian clubs of the time. Honours include 3 Italian Championships (Serie A), 9 Coppa Italia trophies and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (1960–61). Home matches are played at the municipally owned Stadio Olimpico (Capacity: 72,700). Since 1999, the club has been run as a joint stock company with shares trading on the Borsa Italiana under the symbol ASR. As of 2009 Roma's shares were distributed thus: 67.1% to Compagnia Italpetroli SpA (the Sensi family holding), 2.7% to Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA, 2.5% to Danilo Coppola and 27.7% to other shareholders.

Turnover and pre-tax profit figures are in Euro millions.
