Progress on Anfield redevelopment
Liverpool believe that real progress has been made in their bid to redevelop Anfield following progress in a council-led property purchase programme. The club should be able to make a full planning application early next year.
Twenty-two of the 30 properties that need to be bought have now been purchased by Liverpool City Council and social housing provider Your Housing Group. The remaining eight houses are all in the hands of private landlords and could ultimately be made subject to compulsory purchase order.
Liverpool are planning to increase Anfield's capacity to 60,000. The extra gate revenue but, more importantly, additional corporate boxes are much needed to generate the cash that is needed to regain their place as a top five club. However, it could be three seasons from now before the development is complete.
