Player wins case against Blackpool

Marcel Seip has won a case against Blackpool for bonus payments arising from their promotion to the Premier League.   He was loaned out from Plymouth Argyle to the Tangerines from September to December 2009.

He claimed that he was entitled to be given credit for games that he played without substitution.   He was awarded £72,206 plus legal costs and interest.   Lawyers have commented that this emphasises the need for clarity about matter such as bonus payments in players' contracts, particularly where a loan deal is involved.

Good for him

I assume that Blackpool will now claim against their solicitor's professional indemnity insurance.

In addition to Marcel Seip, Charlie Adam brought a claim against Blackpool that was decided by ACAS in October 2010 - the basis of his claim (and apparently others from squad members that were later settled) was that he was entitled to a bonus for avoiding relegation in additon to his bonus for being promoted.  Blackpool argued that only one of those bonuses should be paid.

Shambolic administration of a football club and poor lawyering.
