Owner's death shock for Saints

The death of the owner of Southampton, Markus Liebherr, at the age of 62 has come as a shock to Saints fans.  The German-born Swiss resident was a popular figure with supporters after he effectively saved the club from oblivion and pumped in money to rebuild it.   Without any points deduction this year, Saints fans have been confident of promotion to the Championship.

His family have indicated that they knew how much the club meant to him and they will continue to fund it.    Plans had been put in place in the event of his death.
