"If you want some accessible but informative insight into football then I suggest you couldn't do better than the Political Economy of Football website, which is not only intelligible but comes with the added bonus of being written by Addicks fan Wyn Grant."

The club was founded in 1862 (making its claim to be the oldest professional football club in the world) and plays at the Meadow Lane ground (capacity 20,300). In 1888, along with 11 other football clubs, they were founder members of The Football League.

In July 2009, the club was bought by Qadbak Investments through its subsidiary Munto Finance, who appointed former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson as Director of Football.. In December 2009, it was announced that Notts County chairman, Peter Trembling had purchased the club for a nominal fee from Munto Finance.
