Major League Soccer in the United States is facing increasing political challenges.   Taxpayers are increasingly unwilling to fund new stadiums.   Even if direct subsidies are not needed, tax breaks often are.

The latest problem faces Orlando City where an additional $30m of public funding is needed to finish a new stadium and the Florida legislature stops sitting in another eight days.   They are currently playing at the Citrus Bowl where they are sold out.   However, this has an artificial surface which does not play too well in humid Florida weather.

David Beckham’s prestige has also failed to find a site or funding for his Miami franchise.
