Manchester United have topped the football rich list for the eighth year in a row.  According to Forbes magazine, they are worth £1.4bn.   Real Madrid, ranked second, are valued at £1.17bn while Barcelona are third with an estimated value of £1.07bn.

Forbes said that Manchester United are worth more than both than Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League.   Forbes states that ‘Manchester United’s global fan base of 330m helps make them the most valuable team in any sport.’   Football has a global appeal that baseball and American football do not have.

Arsenal are 4th in the list with a value of £800m, just ahead of Bayern Munich on £770m.  Chelse are ranked seventh (£473m), Liverpool are 8th (£385m) and Spurs are eleventh (£351m).   Manchester City come in 13th and their total value at £275m in less than a fifth of that of their Manchester rivals.
