Liverpool unveil Anfield plans

Liverpool FC have unveiled their plans for the redevelopment of Anfield.  The first phase will see 8,500 seats added to the Main Stand, giving an overall capacity of 54,000.   The £100m cost will be paid for in part by selling the naming rights to the stand – but not the stadium as a whole.   The main funding for the project will come from bank financing.

The stadium design will incorporate a new tier built on top of the existing Main Stand.  When complete it will feature a middle tier comprising executive boxes and lounges that will help Liverpool to increase their corporate revenue.   The Hillsborough memorial will be relocated to a cloister.

Someone remarked recently that what mattered is not whether or not a club had foreign owners, but whether it had competent owners, and Fenway Sports Group have shown themselves to be competent on and off the pitch.
