"If you want some accessible but informative insight into football then I suggest you couldn't do better than the Political Economy of Football website, which is not only intelligible but comes with the added bonus of being written by Addicks fan Wyn Grant."

Leeds controversy reignites

The appointment of Peter Ridsdale as chairman of football at Preston North End has reignited controversy about what happened when he was chairman at Leeds United.   Ridsdale has claimed that things went sour after he left.

However, Peter Lorimer, who became a director in 2004 after Ridsdale left and is a director under the current Ken Bates regime has questioned this version of events.  He said, 'I've nothing against Peter but in my opinion the debts we faced in 2004 were down to gross mismangement by him and his board.   The club were a PLC at the time [and] if things go wrong the buck stops with the man at the top.   It was other people's cash - cash the club didn't have and couldn't afford to pay back.'
