Ipswich Town need success for benefactor

Most Championship clubs aspire to the riches of the Premiership, but the need may be more pressing for Ipswich Town than most.   The club's chief executive has warned that the commitment of owner Marcus Evans might be 'tested' by another mid-table finish.

Evans put in £32m when he took over the club and Clegg stated that the club could only survive because the owner put in £4m to £5m a year which says something about the economics of Championship clubs.   Ipswich is a 'free standing' club in a prosperous area, but that provides the underlying conditions for success on the pitch rather than guaranteeing their achievement.
