There has been a similar debate at Charlton after the club went into Belgian ownership.   Of course, things have changed at Charlton with a Belgian manager, a Belgian chief executive and a largely French-speaking dressing room.   However, the identity of the club lies with its fans.

It is very easy to fall into the trap of assuming that all foreign owners are bad news.   There are good foreign owners and bad foreign owners, just as there are good domestic owners and bad domestic owners.   For better or worse, we live in a globalised, increasingly cosmopolitan and interdependent world and football has been changed by that.
