"If you want some accessible but informative insight into football then I suggest you couldn't do better than the Political Economy of Football website, which is not only intelligible but comes with the added bonus of being written by Addicks fan Wyn Grant."

Either or choice for the A-league?

The A-League cannot afford to back both the Fury in North Queensland and the new Western Sydney franchise and it is increasingly been suggested it will come down to an 'either or' choice.   Western Sydney is a highly populated area, but the city is lukewarm about its existing franchise, Sydney FC.

The advocates of Fury point to the real passion in Townsville.   Once the league pulls out of North Queensland, it will not be easy to go back there whereas Sydney Rovers may be in a better financial position in a year's time.   There are also rumours of interest from a large overseas company in Fury.

It's not going to be an easy choice, but then establishing a soccer league in Australia has been a struggle at times.
