Arsenal has been able to cover the costs of moving to the Emirates, but arguably at the expense of the team.   The cost of St.Mary’s dragged Southampton down into administration and near collapse, albeit in large part as the result of relegation.   Whether the numbers stack up for Lincoln City is open to question.

Re-development may be a less glamorous option, but it may be more feasible and deliver most of what is required, although there are clear advantages with a green field site.   But Darlington probably wouldn’t be in their current mess if they had stayed at their old ground.
