Do Hull have financial worries?

Most clubs would be pleased with a profit of £9.4m on a turnover of £84.8m.  Indeed, by the standards of football the latest financial results from Hull City represent an exceptional performance.

Admittedly, the figures are for an eleven month period to 30 June so that if one added in July the figure would reduce to £3.3m.   That would be wiped out by the £4m of FA Cup revenue obtained by the finalists.

However, Hull City owner Ehab Allam is not satisfied.   He thinks that Hull does not compare with other clubs in terms of commercial income and gate money.   But then the population in the catchment area is not as large as that of many clubs and the area is not as prosperous.    Also, despite his efforts to change the club’s name, Hull lack a global profile.

80 per cent of the club’s income came from central reveue.   Only West Bromwich Albion and the three relegated clubs had a smaller television income.

It is also open to question whether such good financial results can be obtained this year.  £47m is earmarked in the accounts for new players and that will boost the wage bill.
