Nearly 23,000 people have signed a change.org petition calling on Lewisham Council not to use compulsory purchase orders to acquire land around at Millwall’s stadium at the New Den, so that it can be sold to private developers.   London mayor Sadiq Khan has been asked to intervene.

The land includes Millwall’s car park, a cafĂ© and the Lions Centre used by the club’s Community Trust.  It is feared that the future viability of the stadium could be jeopardised if the land is sold to property developers Renewal.

Lewisham councillors are meeting privately tonight to decide what to do.   Labour deputy leader Tom Watson has asked them not to go ahead with the deal.  Unfortunately, the councillors did vote to proceed.
