Can football and rugby league work together?

Various football clubs have at different times hosted rugby union teams.   QPR could ground share with Wasps as part of their new stadium plan.   Rugby isn’t exactly great for the pitch, but it does generate some extra revenue, although it is hardly a game changer in financial terms.

Northampton Town are exploring the possibility of forming a rugby league team.   The expansion of the third tier of rugby league creates an opportunity for the formation of new teams.  One of the advantages is that rugby league is played in the summer.    The Cobblers admit that it won’t be a major money spinner at first, but think it could be viable.


In continental Europe football clubs are often part of much bigger sporting clubs that engage in a range of sports, including facilities for their own fans.
