"If you want some accessible but informative insight into football then I suggest you couldn't do better than the Political Economy of Football website, which is not only intelligible but comes with the added bonus of being written by Addicks fan Wyn Grant."

Businessman disillusioned with Hull experience

Peter Wilkinson, the multi-millionaire businessman who bankrolled Hull City under Adam Pearson, has dashed speculation that he might return to the game.   it was clearly a disllusioning experience for him.  He told the Yorkshire Post, 'I have finished in football forever.  Why would you want to spend some of your hard-earned money to be abused and ridiculed by the supporters, hated by some of them, because you cannot achieve something that is totally unrealistic?'

Wilkinson was also critical of player purchase policy at Hull: 'Hull have all that debt and that enormous wage bill and I cannot think of a decent player that is worth some decent dosh.  What the hell did they spend it on?  It's not as if they bought a James Milner or an Ashley Young.'

Businessman disillusioned with Hull experience

I think you'll find that Wilkinson was talking in general terms about investing in football clubs, rather than specifically about his investment in Hull City.

He was a silent partner, the deal was fronted by Adam Pearson and few people knew who he was, he was certainly never 'abused or ridiculed' by the fans of Hull City. He took us from bankruptcy, through back to back promotions to the Championship, you'll not find anyone in Hull with a bad word to say about him(even the ones who know who he is!)

Disillusioned?

I'm in total agreement with your comment. A poor piece of sensationalist journalism, more at home with our local rag tag mail!

As you say he was alluding to owning a football club in general, not to any treatment, he never received while associated with Hull City AFC.
