Yeung will make a big loss on the deal, over £50m on the purchase price along.   He bought the Blues for £81.5m in 2009.  He also lent the club £13.7m while parent company Birmingham International Holdings Ltd made a loan of £7.8m.

However, Yeung’s assets were frozen following money laundering charges.   He will stand trial at the end of the month.

The Blues lost at home to Ipswich yesterday and are currently 18th in the Championship when they would hope to be contending for promotion.   If a takeover deal is not completed, Birmingham City could be forced to sell key players in the January transfer window such as England goalkeeper Jack Butland and young winger Nathan Redmond.
