B teams on the agenda again

Plans to allow top clubs to run 'B' teams lower down the league system have been on the agenda for some time, but they have been revived again.   The latest idea involves either a new league sandwiched between League 2 and the Conference or a merger between League 2 and the Conference which would then be divided into two regional leagues.

What is not clear is how this would affect the pyramid system or how promotion and relegation would work.  The Premier League would favour a beefed up under 23 league something like the US college system.   Another possibility would be allow to formal nursery arrangements with smaller clubs.   However, none of these ideas are likely to be popular with fans.
