The Football League has withheld parachute payments of £130,000 from Blue Square North side Boston United following the Pilgrims' relegation on the final day of last season, when then-chairman Jim Rodwell declared the stricken club insolvent minutes before the final whistle. The cash has been retained because Boston have not paid back all the money they owe to football creditors. This was also the reason given by the Conference for demoting the Lincolnshire side to the Blue Square North before a ball was kicked. The Pilgrims are currently £3m in the red and must pay 47p in the pound to creditors as part of a company voluntary arrangement. The creditors are divided into two categories - football creditors such as players and staff, and outside creditors like Revenue and Customs. Under the terms of the CVA Boston must pay both sides equally, but the FA is unhappy that football creditors have not been given priority. The League has emphasised that parachute payments are at its discretion. It would be entitled to transfer the withheld sum to the football creditors.
