Becks Looks For New Sponsorship Deal - 18/11/2007

David Beckham is looking for two new big sponsorships as the England footballer's earnings from endorsements tumbled by 28 per cent to £11.1m last year. His sponosrhip income fell for the second consecutive year from £15.5m. It is likely to drop again after his Gillette contract comes to an end. His agents, Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment, are negotitating a new clothing deal, which will involve a Beckham-branded line of products and an 'American tie up' in an attempt to capitalise on his exposure in the country, although details are still vague. Beckham has four deals with adidas, Pepsi, Motorola (which is introducing a Beckham-branded mobile phone) and Coty, a perfume maker that produces fragrances named after both the footballer and his wife. During 2005, the deal with Vodafone came to an end, while the loss of the Gillette deal will cost him £3m a year. Nevertheless, the lucrative deal that he made with LA Galaxy, worth an estimated £125m over five years, means that he continues to be the best-paid footballer in the world. He and his family received £10.1m and a further £1.75m in dividends, down from £19.7m the year before, payments that left his company, Footwork Productions, running at a loss.
