Leeds Creditos' Meeting To Reconvene

03/06/2007

The meeting of Leeds United creditors is to re-convene on Monday to conduct a recount after the Ken Bates takeover won approval by a whisker (75.02 per cent) over the required 75 per cent majority. Three substantial creditors had said before the meeting that they would back Bates, giving up their rights to any payout. They would also vote down any of the six other offers that administrators KPMG had received for Leeds. In the case of Swiss-based Forward Sports Fund, its connection with Bates has been acknowledged. At the meeting former Leeds chairman Gerald Krasner revealed that one of the other main creditors, Astor, had an interest in Forward Sport. KPMG's Richard Fleming said, 'It's the first time we've been made aware of it.' His colleagues pointed out that even if there was a connection a year ago, as disclosed in Leeds' 2006 accounts, it was irrelevant now. Even if Bates wins the recount, some of the rival bidders are threatening to take the dispute to court.
