American Investors Seek Premiership Clubs

24/07/2007

American investor William Chang has been engaged in discussions with senior Premier League figures as he looks for an English club to buy. He is part-owner of the San Francisco Giants baseball team as well as Major League Soccer team DC United for which he paid £17m earlier this year. Chang is chairman and chief executive officer of the Westlake Group, a firm with a variety of interests in the US, Japan and China. He has a strong interest in English football. He commented, 'A lot of people have said the English Premier League has been fully valued, but I think there's still a lot of value.'

US based property tycoon Daniel Williams is expected to decide before the end of the week whether he will press ahead with a £50m takeover of Blackburn Rovers. Williams, who was born in Lytham St. Annes and grew up supporting Blackburn, will hold a final round of talks with the club over the next few days, after which he could enter into a period of due diligence with a view to making a final offer. It is unlikely that a deal could be completed to give manager Mark Hughes extra funds before the transfer window closes at the end of August. It is unclear how much Williams is worth and he has insisted that he is not a billionaire sugar daddu. However, he said last month, 'We would make funds available as part of our package because the way you make a club valuable is by getting in the top seven and Europe every year.' The Williams camp denied reports that the entrepreneur was considering a buyout of Southampton.
