Fanchester Dream May Come Real

22/07/2007

The dream (or nightmare) of a real club in which fans make all the decisions is not far off fruition. Will Brooks' website myfootballclub.co.uk is not far off raising the £1.375m it needs to buy a football club which the members will run. 47,807 fans have pledged the annual fee of £35. Once a club is bought, members will have an equal say in running the club, voting on every decision from team selection to transfers. Brooks is thinking of buying a non-league club with Cambridge, Woking and Halifax among those favoured. Of course, who will prepared to work as head coach under such an arrangement is another question that remains to be answered. What will probably quickly become evident is that running a real club poses much more complex challenges than playing a simulation game like Championship Manager.
