Non-league teams at the top of the pyramid are hoping for an income boost from the new television deal with Setanta. Last year Conference teams got £5,000 for the home team and £2,000 for the away team from Sky Sports, but they hope that in the re-named Blue Square League they will get £12,000 for the home team and £6,000 for the away side. The downside is that games have been re-scheduled for a Thursday evening, the least used day of the week for a game, and likely to hit gates because fewer away fans will attend. It also means that clubs like Oxford and York who feature heavily in the schedules will face another game 48 hours later unless they can re-schedule fixtures. Even so, clubs should be better off financially.
