Wrexham FC Hope To Survive - 01/05/2006 |
|
|
By June 3rd League 2 club Wrexham will have been in administration for 18 months, the maximum allowed under Football League rules. However, it looks like the 134 year old club will survive. During the season the club won a court case to take ownership of the ground away from former chairman Alex Hamilton. He still owns 78 per cent of the shares but the administrator is talking to a consortium led by two successful local businessmen and dedicated Wrexham fans, Nev Dickens and Geoff Moss. Operating under administration has not been easy and probably ended the club's hopes of getting into the play-offs. The Football League withheld £260,000 until they had fulfilled all their fixtures. Clubs in administration are allowed a maximum squad of 20 players and you have to have five injuries taking you below the minimum 16 players before you can sign someone else. This rule takes no account of position: at one time Wrexham had four centre halves out injured. However, it looks as if the club will survive, a tribute to the persistence of the fans. |
