Dundalk Fan Invades FAI Headquarters And Threatens Self Immolation

15/12/2006

Such is the passion for football in Ireland that a Dundalk fan invaded the FAI offices in Dublin, doused the place (and later himself) in petrol and demanded a meeting with FAI Chief Executive John Delay over Dundalk's exclusion from the new Eircom League Premiership. The FAI had promoted Galway United ahead of Dundalk FC under new criteria for clubs playing in the Premier Division using guidelines to decide which 12 teams should play in the top flight in 2007, such as infrastructure, planning, youth development and so on. Results over the last five years were also taken into consideration. An eyewitness said: "He was shouting something like, 'I have no problem with Galway, but Dundalk fans deserve justice.'"

Exclusive footage was filmed by Random Thoughts Media.
