Football League Crowds Highest Since End of 1950s - 28/05/2005

Crowds in the Football League are at their highest level for forty-five years after a 3 per cent rise during the 2004-5 season. The 1,656 matches were watched by 16.4 million people, the highest number since 1959-60. Crowds for the league's present three divisions were only 7.4 million in 1985-86. Coca-Cola Championship crowds were up ten per cent on the previous season and the average of 17,410 supporters per match puts the division at a similar level as Italy's Serie A.
