West Ham may receive a takeover offer from Iranian born British national Kia Joorabchian whose company last year bought Brazilian club Corinthians, currently leading their national competition after some expensive signings. Joorbachian's Media Sports Investment acquired Corinthians before spending $20 million, a record for a Brazilian team, on striker Carlos Tevez from Boca Juniors in Argentina. West Ham Chairman Terry Brown has said that he wants £60m for the club and £30m to pay off debt. West Ham fans have protested in recent years at what they see as a lack of investment in the team by Brown. Joorabchian says that he plans to spend £100m on players. The takeover has been welcomed by West Ham manager Alan Pardew who commented 'I could do a lot with a 100 million.' Joorabchian says that he is looking at West Ham because Chelsea isn't available and franchieses like Arsenal and Spurs woul cost too much. Radio 5 cast some doubt on the deal with a report that the company in Brazil has been investigated by the Sao Paulo state authorities for alleged involvement in money laundering activities, an investigation now being followed up by the Brazilian federal authorities. However, the investigation has not come to any conclusion. Joorabchian has previously denied specuation that he is financially backed by Roman Abramovich.
