Chester City In Trouble Whilst Hereford United Survive - 16/10/2004

Chester City's return to league football is being marred by the threat of going into administration. The move would be a bid to get the Inland Revenue off their back but could cost them ten points and leave them at the bottom of League Two. City chief executive Dave Burford said the club was still paying the price for debt lingering from before Stephen Vaughan took over as chairman. Vaughan has already put £3m into the club. Meanwhile, former Conference rivals Hereford United have come out of a Company Voluntary Arrangement that has lasted for seven years. The club have not made a full settlement of their debts but the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise have agreed to accept an offer.
